Music at humanist and civil funeral services
Humanist funerals and civil funerals are the perfect way to celebrate the life of a non-religious person. These secular (non-religious) funerals are usually held at a crematorium or a designated burial ground, but can take place at your home, a hotel or an approved location.
Live singing at non-religious funerals
Often arranged in accordance of the wishes of the deceased, secular services can include any style of music, and some families choose to include favourite songs, and even hymns.
We can provide an experienced, professional funeral soloist or two to perform at these very special occasions – just call us for details.
Songs for civil funerals
You can arrange a civil funeral ceremony for anyone regardless of background or beliefs. There is no set format, and it can be conducted by a minister, a funeral celebrant, or a family member or friend. This is a ceremony created specifically to celebrate a life. It is a very personal, creative event, and the music possibilities are endless. Non-religious or religious music are both suitable for a civil service, and you can mix recorded and live music in any way you wish.
Songs for humanist funerals
Humanist funerals are very similar to civil funerals, but should not include any religious music. Usually led by a Humanist celebrant, it focuses on celebrating the life and achievements of the person.Humanist funerals have a more relaxed and personal feel, and many people choose them for funerals at burial grounds.
Each ceremony is therefore unique, as individual as the person who has died, and as amazing as the life they’ve lived.

Civil and humanist funeral format
Whilst you can have almost any format you like, it helps to think of the structure of a funeral as including:
Pre-service
Give a warm welcome to friends and guests as they arrive on the day with either recorded or live instrumental music.
Non-religious songs
You can choose any number of musical items to be included in the service. Our funeral singers are more than happy to perform songs that have special meaning for your family.
Religious songs
A civil funeral can include religious music if you wish, but a humanist funeral usually doesn’t.

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for your beautiful contribution to the service yesterday. It was a tough day, but your singing helped to lighten the mood considerably during the service. Everyone was so amazed by your singing, including the funeral directors who were incredibly complimentary, they had never heard such fantastic singing at a funeral.
Toni’s sensitive delivery at a recent funeral was beautiful; her voice filling, but not dominating, the room. She judged it perfectly, delivering a meaningful tribute in a personal way.
Toni sang for my father-in-law’s funeral. Her soaring soprano voice filled the space and every single person at the ceremony commented on her performance and how much it added to the proceedings. The funeral directors and the celebrant were very impressed. She sang beautifully and was extremely professional, thoughtful and discreet throughout. Toni’s singing was a fitting tribute to John and his love of music.
We want to thank you so much for making Jean’s funeral so special this morning. You sang so beautifully and it was the making of the service. We will strongly recommend you as the perfect choice as a soloist.
